Andrew J. Furey

d. November 1, 2022

Andrew J. Furey - dedicated husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and friend - passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2022.

Born to Thomas and Rose Furey in Philadelphia, PA, Andrew lived in southwest Philadelphia and graduated from Bartram High School in 1968. He was later drafted into the Army, served his country in Vietnam, and was a purple heart recipient.

Andrew married his wife of 53 years JoAnn (Ruocco) Furey in 1969, and together they raised three children and have three grand-children.

Throughout his career, Andrew worked as a Manufacturing Engineer. He was Lead Engineer for many years at Pilling Surgical in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania, designing surgical instruments for which he held several patents. Andrew was skilled in many areas and willingly shared his vast knowledge of gardening, carpentry, plumbing, and electrics, always willing to lend a helping hand to a family member in need. In addition to his technical and mechanical skills, he was an avid fisherman and nature enthusiast. Oftentimes, he could just look at the clouds in the sky, take in the breeze, and predict the weather better than the local weather station. We could always rely on Andrew to answer questions about the local wildlife, both in the city and down the shore. Andrew could identify many birds, animals, and plants that he would come across in your backyard or on the beach. For leisure, Andrew enjoyed watching science fiction, fishing, boating, crabbing, dolphin watching, relaxing summers at the shore in Wildwood, and spending time with his family and grandchildren. Andrew is survived by his wife, JoAnn; their children Joann and her husband Anthony Allen and son Damien Furey and his wife Ariel; Three grandchildren, Zoe, Hailey, and Bobby. His niece Natalie and her husband Mike Lesniak and Extended Family Walter and Nicole Tuttle.  Andrew was pre-deceased in death by his son John Furey. Andrew lost his battle against Parkinson's Disease. His family wishes to extend special thanks to our friends Rosalind and Elaine Mayo and Donna Leeson who helped us navigate the hospital system. Also, the Traveling Nurse, Katie, from south Jersey on who was working on his final day on 1 West at Crozer Chester Medical Center and was able to help Andrew pass comfortably.
