Barbara (Lafferty) Smyth

January 13, 1942 — July 17, 2024

Glen Mills

Barbara (nee Lafferty) Smyth, died peacefully at Maris Grove on July 17, 2024. Barbara was raised in Clifton Heights, Delaware County, PA and was a graduate of Clifton Heights High School Class of 1959. Three years after graduation, she married Francis S. Fabrizio and together they owned and operated Fabrizio's Flowers in Lansdowne and Clifton Heights. During these years, she became a mother of three children that she cherished deeply. After her children were raised, Barb ventured into the collegiate world and obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from Neumann University in Aston. While working towards her degree, Barb worked for Novacare in their hand therapy division in Ridley Park. After graduation, she worked at Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital both as a volunteer coordinator and hospice chaplain.

Barbara's faith was very important to her and by serving others she became the hands and feet of Christ, as her warm and loving personality brought great comfort to many in need. In August of 2007, she married "Richard dear" and the two happily resided in the Maris Grove Community in Glen Mills. Barb volunteered with a very open and giving heart through her church, local community and eventually served at the facility at Maris Grove that would become her home for these last few years. She enjoyed Bible study, gardening, journaling, reading, traveling and anything that drew her into nature and all of God's Creation. Throughout her life, she was a warm, loving evangelizer who drew people to her and in return, those people would end up loving her genuine, peaceful, Christ centered spirit.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband Richard "Dick" Smyth. Devoted and loving mother of Lisa Barksdale (Robert), Linda Mazzoli, and Robert Fabrizio (Lisa). Grandmother of Vincent (Cel), Dominic (Shelly), Joseph, David (Madison) Maya and Mykah. Also survived by her sister Virginia Nelson, many nieces, nephews, and Dick's children Margaret Pyle, Susan Lannon, Paul Smyth, Karen Gruber, Thomas Smyth and the late Richard Smyth and Kathleen Ives. Barbara is also pre-deceased in death by her parents Russell and Pauline (nee Leaper) Lafferty, her brother Russell R. Lafferty, and her dear cousin "other sister", Joyce Wells.
