Surrounded by her family, Barbara (Weeks) Ward, 80 of Woodlyn, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully just after midnight at 12:02 Easter morning, April 1, 2018 after bravely battling lung cancer. Loving wife of Bill Ward, (William, deceased 10/25/15), Barb is survived by her children, Bill and wife Colleen, Kathy, Barbie, Dan and wife Krissy and her 7 grandchildren, Dan Jr., Ryan, Amanda, Natalie, Connor, Sean and Dylan. Barb grew up in Southwest Philadelphia in St. Barnabas and Most Blessed Sacrament parishes with her brothers and sisters, Vicky, Joe, Jim and Joanna who will miss her dearly. A graduate of West Catholic High School for Girls in 1955, she enjoyed playing basketball for West and after graduation for the Young Women’s Catholic Basketball league. Barb loved going to the shore, especially Margate in her early years, where she met her husband, Bill. Later Atlantic City became her favorite shore destination, but not for its beach. All who knew Barb also know how she loved going to the casinos, especially with her husband, Bill and brother and friend, Jim and sister-in-law Gen and daughter, Barbie. Though she never won big money, she always had a good time. Always putting others before herself, Barb graciously and patiently, cared for her mother, Vicky, Uncle Joe, Uncle Ed, Aunt Helen and Uncle Bill in their later years until their passing. She stayed home with the kids until they started high school and then started working at Fitzgerald Mercy hospital in 1982 in the admissions office and then the billing department. Barb was well loved by her friends on Dorel Street in Southwest Philadelphia and her newer friends at “Fitz”. Friends and her extended family of 39 nieces and nephews enjoyed Barb’s sense of humor and love of a good time. When she and Bill danced the jitterbug, everyone stopped to watch. A huge sports fan, she especially loved watching college hoops for the guys and the girls not only during March Madness but also through the season. Barb stayed with the Phillies and Eagles through the rough times and was thrilled to see the Eagles win Super Bowl LII! Barb was a faithful Catholic who was dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. She was the epitome of unconditional love, sweetness, compassion, and understanding. Though her earthly life filled with good times and bad is now over, Barb will have eternal rest, peace and happiness with her Father in Heaven. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Barbara’s life at St. Madeline Church, 110 Park Street, Ridley Park, PA 19078 on Thursday, April 5th from 9:15 to 10:15 am for visitation and 10:30 am Mass of Christian Burial, Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery and luncheon immediately following at Lehman’s Restaurant, 400 Wanamaker Avenue, Essington, PA 19029.
