Brother Benedict Oliver, Fsc

Brother Benedict Oliver, FSC age 83, on August 11, 2021. Brother Benedict is survived by his siblings, Brother Richard Oliver, OSB, and Thomas Oliver.

Brother Benedict joined The Brothers of the Christian Schools on June 15, 1956 and took the name Dennis Benedict. Most of his career as a Christian Brother encompassed teaching, school leadership, and District Administration. He was principal at Central Catholic High School (Pittsburgh, PA), Archbishop Carroll High School (Radnor, PA), and Calvert Hall College High School (Baltimore, MD). Brother Ben served as Formation Director of the Christian Brothers’ Jeremy House Scholasticate from 1984 to 1991 and as Provincial of the legacy Baltimore Province between 1994 to 2001. He then served as teacher-formator at Christ The Teacher Institute for Education in Nairobi, Kenya, between 2001-2003. Back in Pittsburgh, he oversaw the Writing Center at Central Catholic on a part-time basis until his retirement in 2017. For a more detailed "tour of duty" for Brother Benedict, please click here .

Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Sunday, August 15 from 4:00 to 7:30 pm at Anselm Hall Brothers’ Community on the Campus of La Salle University, 2101 W. Clarkson Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19144 and on Monday, August 16 there will be a visitation at Central Catholic High School Auditorium, 4720 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm with a Mass of Christian Burial following visitation at 7 pm. Mass will be live streamed, follow the link below. Private interment on Tuesday, August 17 at 3:30 pm at Christian Brothers Cemetery in Ammendale, MD (Beltsville, MD)
