Catherine "Cathy" McCollum (nee Moll), a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on August 6, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. She leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love, unwavering strength, and a vibrant spirit that touched everyone she met.
Born to Effie and Leo Moll, Cathy's selfless nature revealed itself early. At just 15, she left school to help care for her family, beginning a lifetime of putting others before herself. She married the love of her life, Charles "Chuck" McCollum, and together they built a family rooted in love, laughter, and resilience.
Cathy was an extraordinary mother to six children: Danielle Sullivan (John), Kevin (Annie), Patricia Sebra (David), Kelly (Tim), Matthew, and Dennis. She was affectionately known as "Mommom" to 13 grandchildren and "Gigi" to many great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart. She was predeceased by her beloved Chuck, her sons Kevin and Dennis, her parents Effie and Leo, granddaughter Amy, son-in-law David and brothers Leo and Francis.
For most her life, Cathy was a homemaker, a role she embraced with pride. She was the cornerstone of her family and a pillar of strength for her husband. Her vibrant personality lit up every room, and she had an uncanny ability to remain positive in every circumstance.
Cathy's faith in God was central to her life. As a devoted parishioner of Saint Anastasia Church in Newtown Square, she found strength, comfort, and joy in her faith community. Her belief guided her through life's blessings and challenges, and she passed that faith on to her children and grandchildren through her example.
Some of the fondest memories of Cathy's life include summers at the swim club, festive holidays at the family home on Woodlawn Avenue, and countless gatherings with her many friends and loved ones. She and Chuck loved cruising around in their cars, spending time at Squire Motors, visiting the family farm in Dushore, and traveling to destinations such as Ireland and the Bahamas. She was always ready for a new adventure and embraced life with open arms.
Cathy's warmth, humor, and boundless love will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be remembered for her warm, welcoming smile, her ability to make anyone feel at home, and the way she could find joy in life's simplest moments. Her legacy will live on in the traditions she created, the stories she shared, and the love she instilled in her family.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Thursday, August 14, 2025 from 9:15 am until 10:15 am at Saint Anastasia Church, 3301 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073. Cathy's Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 am. Following Mass, she will be reunited with her beloved Chuck at St. Denis Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in Cathy's memory, honoring her strength and spirit throughout life's challenges.
