Dennis C. Conlan, born on January 5, 1931, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, passed away on October 6, 2025. With a legacy rooted in family, hard work, and a deep sense of humor, Dennis's life was one marked by dedication and love.
His career spanned decades, beginning with his service in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1951 to 1955. He was a member of the Philadelphia Carpenters Union, where he dedicated 75 years, earning recognition with a 75-year pin in 2025. His work with Amtrak, where he spent 15 years, was fondly regarded by him as the "greatest job," a testament to his strong work ethic.
Dennis was a graduate of Bartram High School, Class of 1949. He was not only a hard worker but also a great storyteller, known for his amusing anecdotes and entertaining tales that captivated friends and family alike. His vivid stories were often shared at gatherings, bringing laughter and joy to those around him.
Family was the cornerstone of Dennis's existence. He dearly loved his children: Chris T. (Caroline - deceased), Robert E. (Cathy), Dennis M. (Karen), Donna L. Cherwinski, Ralph L. Nather (Diane), and Nancy L. Clancy. He was a proud grandfather to 17 grandchildren and cherished the joys of 12 great-grandchildren. His dedication to their health and well-being was unwavering, and he found immense pleasure in supporting them.
Dennis looked forward to spending winters in Sanibel Island, FL, where he could embrace relaxation and leisure. He also took great pride in his Irish heritage, staying connected with relatives in Ireland throughout his life.
Dennis was predeceased by his "Two Good Wives," Helen M. (nee Ferguson) and Marie (nee Foley), along with his son Paul Conlan and daughter Marie L. Nather. He also mourned the loss of his parents, Robert E. and Mary J. (nee Dunne), and his sisters, Sr. Eleanor Conlan, IHM, and Miriam Quinn (Thomas).
Relatives and friends are invited to Dennis' visitation Friday, October 17, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:45 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church, located at 136 Saxer Avenue in Springfield, PA. His Funeral Mass will follow, beginning at 11:00 AM. Interment at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery immediately after Mass.
