Helen Sakosky

d. June 13, 2019

Helen (nee Kosierowski) Sakosky died unexpectedly and peacefully on June 13, as she received the Apostolic Anointing of the Sick at Holy Family Home in Philadelphia. Helen was born January 16, 1927 in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Peter and Pauline Kosierowski. She moved to Philadelphia during WW2 with her brother Walter, and his wife, to seek employment. Soon thereafter, at age 14 she served with distinction for three years as a ‘riveter' for Kellett Aircraft Co. (Philadelphia) helping to manufacture the P47 thunderbolt fighter during the war effort. After the war ended she was employed as a switchboard operator for the Bell Telephone Co. for five years, during which time she met and married Joseph Sakosky with whom she had five children. After fulfilling her motherly duties, she went on to become a purchasing adjuster for the John Wanamaker company, where she performed admirably for 20 years until retirement. Helen possessed a deep faith and conviction, forged by her early commitment to Parish life. She dutifully served as a member of the Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary since age 6 at Sts. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church, Plains, Pa. There she grew in her deeply Catholic faith, receiving her sacraments, including marriage to her betrothed husband of 45 years. It was at Sts. Peter and Paul Helen became committed to her strongly held values of faith and reverence for family and friends. Her life was a wonderful display of service and selfless donation to others. Helen's life was characterized by her profound loyalty to her family. There was no task too large for her to embrace in order to benefit her loved ones. Mrs. Sakosky possessed a keen intellect and was fluent in Polish, occasionally serving as an interpreter for health care providers. She was exceptionally gifted at maintaining contact with relatives both in the US and Poland. Widely known to be a most Holy and pious woman, Helen devoted a large part of her day in prayer dedicated to her loved ones and for the many special spiritual requests asked of her. She was an exemplar of faith, loyalty to her principles and dedication to family. Helen will be forever missed by her family and all whose lives she so profoundly touched. She was predeceased by husband Joseph (1994), siblings Mary (Woynoski), Walter, Anthony, Sophie (Jasienski) and John. She is survived by her beloved children Joseph, Barbara, Marie Kelly (John), John, and Michael (Paula) as well as seven grandchildren and two great grandsons in addition to the many nieces and nephews, all of whom she held close to her heart.
