James E. Rastatter

James Rastatter passed away at his home in Havertown, PA on January 3, 2022.  He was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen (nee Furey) as well as two of his sons James Jr., and William as well as two sisters Mary (Wickersham) and Sister Margaret RSM.  He is survived by four siblings: Kathleen Bossone, Harry Rastatter, Ann (Cissy) Tadler, and John Albert Rastatter as well as six children: John, Paul, Daniel, Mary, Nancy Guerra (Mike) and Joseph (Jeanine).  He also has 8 grandchildren: Alex, Rachel, Bridget, Trevor, Ryan, Joseph, Jenna, and Lily as well as one great-grandchild, William. He is also survived by several nephews and nieces.

Jim or Buddy as he was known to his immediate family was born in Renovo, PA, on August 11, 1922, to Harry and Helen (nee Dougherty) Rastatter.  He was the second of seven children.  His family moved to West Philadelphia when he was a young child.  He was a graduate of Saint Francis DeSales and West Catholic.  Soon after his high school graduation, he enlisted in the Marine Corp to proudly serve our country during World War 2.  He spent time in Okinawa, before landing in occupied Japan.

After the war, Jim attended Saint Joseph’s University, and during that time, he met Kathleen Furey, the love of his life.  They soon married and started a large family.  Jim worked at Burroughs Computer as a Financial Analyst for much of his working years before retiring in 1986.

Jim had a passion for sports.  He coached many of his children’s’ teams in football, baseball, softball, and soccer.  He was very active at Annunciation BVM.  He served as lector during mass and was the head of the CYO for many years.  In later years, he cared for his wife and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Relative's and friends are invited to Jim's Mass of Christian Burial Monday, January 10th, 11 am at Annunciation BVM Church, 401 Brookline Blvd, Havertown. A viewing will start at church at 9:30 am. Funeral Mass will be live streamed, please click here shortly before Mass begins. Interment following Mass at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery where Jim will be reunited with his wife.
