Joseph E. Troyan age 97 passed on November 30, 2018. Joseph was born in Mt. Carmel, PA on August 11, 1921 to Joseph & Anna (nee Matzura) Troyan. Joe was a proud World War II Navy Veteran. Joe had kept an article from Mt. Carmel's newspaper The Item which appeared in 1944 stating, "Petty Officer 3rd class Joseph Troyan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Troyan, 138 S. Spruce Street, is a member of the crew of the PC-565 U.S. patrol vessel which recently destroyed an enemy U-boat”. Another article was the September 8 edition of the New York Times which stated "The story of the exploit of the PC-565 came through today disclosing that the U-boat was destroyed so swiftly that she had no opportunity to fight back. In less than 10 minutes the Navy report stated she plunged with water pouring through the open hatch of her conning tower. All of the crew except the commanding officer were trapped below deck." Joe also served in the D-day invasion as a operator of a LCI landing craft shuttling troops to the beach. Joe has lived in Havertown, PA since 1953. He was a former cable splicer for Bell of Pennsylvania. Beloved husband of Helen A. (nee Olshefski) who died in 2011. Beloved father of Lillian A. Hood and Kathleen M. Troyan both of Havertown. Also survived by two grandchildren Mark M. Hood of State College, PA and Kristen R. (Hood) Miller of Winterville, GA.; 3 great grandchildren Gavin Schaefer-Hood, Kaylee Schaefer-Hood and Mary Miller; and one sister Anna Vodopija of Palmeto, FL Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Monday, December 10 from 9am to 9:45am St. Pius X Church 220 Lawrence Road, Broomall, Funeral Mass 10am. Interment SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery.   In lieu of flowers, donations to Our Lady of Fatima Day program would be appreciated. Please write a check to “Our Lady of Fatima”.
