Laura Moore (Small) passed away peacefully on October 23rd in Cary, North Carolina. Born and raised in Southwest Philadelphia, she relocated to Cary 33 years ago.
She was predeceased by her parents, Margaret and Richard Small, and her sister, Janet Small. She is survived by her sister, Susan Lafferty (Jamie), and her brother, David Small.
Laura leaves behind her devoted husband of 48 years, Ken, the other half of a love story for the ages. Since they were teenagers, they faced everything together, from figuring out how to raise their family to deciding to relocate to a different part of the country and start a new life. In her later years, they faced the difficult decisions about which treatments might give her as much time as possible with the love of her life and her best friend.
That same love story built a family filled with love. Laura leaves behind her children, Michelle Tomassetti (Steven), Diana Campbell (Aaron), and Kenny Moore (Heather), who learned from their mom to find joy in the little things—a good steak and baked potato dinner, a challenging jigsaw puzzle, or a Bacardi and Diet Pepsi, as long as no one forgot the twist of lime.
She was devoted to her five grandchildren: Andrew Moore, Dominic Tomassetti, Devon Tomassetti, Abigail Moore, and Avery Moore. She was also blessed to meet and enjoy time with her first great-grandchild, Natalia Moore, before she left us.
Laura is also survived by a large and loving circle of family and friends who held a special place in her heart.
She never forgot her Southwest Philly roots and remained a devoted Philadelphia Eagles fan. She loved being surrounded by family and friends and never passed up an opportunity to celebrate. In fact, she was often the first one on the dance floor.
For many years, Laura would begin searching for the perfect Halloween costume during the summer months. The results were nothing short of amazing. One year, she appeared to be standing on her hands; another year, she held her own head in her hands. By the end of October, she might even transform into Cousin It! These incredible costumes were crafted alongside Ken, earning them multiple first-place wins for best costume.
Yet what many will remember most about Laura was her infectious, unmistakable laugh—a sound that could fill a room and bring a smile to everyone around her.
Laura would not want tears to overshadow her memory. Instead, she would want those who loved her to laugh, share stories, and celebrate a life well lived.
Laura’s illness made it difficult for her to breathe around flowers. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a tax-deductible contribution to either of the following organizations in her memory:
Ridley Performing Arts Program - 104 Nevin Street, Floor 2, Ridley, Park, PA 19033
Ridley Drama Group - 901 Morton Avenue, Folsom, PA 19033, Attn: Amar Ahluwalia
Relatives and friends are invited to Laura's visitation on Saturday, December 12, 2026 from 11 am until noon at King Funeral Service, 209 N. Newtown Street Road, Newtown Square. Her funeral service will follow at 12, noon at the funeral home. Please join us to reminisce, celebrate, and honor Laura.
