Leona M. Reick, affectionately known as Lee, passed away on August 20, 2025, leaving a profound legacy of love and warmth in her wake. Born on October 1, 1944 to Thomas and Rebecca (nee McDevitt) Barber, she grew up in the vibrant Grays Ferry neighborhood of South Philadelphia, where the spirit of community and family became the foundation of her life. Lee was a proud graduate of St. Gabriel's Grade School and St. Maria Goretti High School.
A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Lee radiated a giving nature. She was the devoted wife for over 49 years to the late John "Jack" Reick. She was selfless and strong, always putting her family first. Lee was an amazing mother to Mary (Chris) Dempsey, Jack (Jess), and Judy (Joe) Falcone. Her greatest joy came from her eight grandchildren: Ricky, Christopher, and Grace Dempsey; Michael and Mia Falcone; and Josie, Eva, and John Reick. She took every opportunity to support them by attending their sporting events and various activities, cheering them on with a heart full of pride. She is also survived by her big sister and best friend, Judy (George) Kweder; her cherished brothers and sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Lee was predeceased by her beloved siblings: Isabel (Jack) Bernard, Fran (Woody) Wetzler, Bud Barber, and Baby Rosemary Barber.
Lee was a long-time parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Havertown, where she immersed herself in parish life. Her commitment and love to the church and school were undeniable; she served on the hospitality committee, participated in Pre-Cana sessions, and dedicated time to volunteering at the school. The church community was a vital part of her life, where she formed bonds that lasted a lifetime and deepened her faith. After her children were all in their high school years, Lee began a rewarding career as a loan coordinator in the controller's office at Bryn Mawr College, where she formed many special friendships that enriched her life. Lee cherished family vacations in Sea Isle City, creating countless memories through the years.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Lee’s life on Monday, August 25, 2025 at Sacred Heart Church, located at 110 North Manoa Road, Havertown, PA 19083, from 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM. Her Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 AM. After Mass, she will be reunited with her husband Jack at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lee's memory to Sacred Heart Parish would be appreciated.
