Maria A. Varrella (Mastrobuoni), (67) a selfless and compassionate wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away suddenly on June 11, 2024 surrounded by her family.
Maria was born on February 17, 1957 in South Philadelphia to the late Samuel and Anna Mastrobuoni. Maria married the love of her life, Richard Varrella, on June 8, 1985 and they had just recently celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary. They moved to the Briarcliffe section of Glenolden, PA in 1987, where they built a beautiful life and family for the last 36 years.
Maria and Richard originally met at a mutual friend’s graduation party, but they didn’t start dating until two years later. Since then, their bond was unbreakable and their love for each other was admired by all. They brought two wonderful children into the world, Samantha and Richard. Her life revolved around them, and she was always there for her children, especially as they started families of their own.
Maria was also the proud grandmother of four grandchildren, Madison, Sean, Anna and Robert. They were the light of her life and brought her so much joy. She loved them more than life itself. She enjoyed spending time with them, playing games with them, and attending all of their events.
Maria worked as a medical secretary for years, and more recently she retired from Delaware County Memorial Hospital where she worked as a Financial Specialist. She was a hard worker who was well-loved by her colleagues.
Over the past three years, Maria had been battling breast cancer. During this time, she received various treatments, went to physical therapy and also faced several setbacks. Through it all, she never once complained, always saw the bright side of things, and showed how strong and resilient she was. She was truly an inspiration to the entire family.
Maria will be remembered for her unwavering love of her family and friends, and the way she treated everyone with kindness and compassion. She would drop everything and be there for anyone who needed her in a minute’s notice. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit and memory will live on and will forever be a part of those she left behind.
Maria was the cherished daughter of the late Samuel and Anna Mastrobuoni. She is survived by her beloved husband Richard Varrella and her loving children Samantha (Kevin) Partridge and Richard (Michelle) Varrella. She is also survived by her 4 grandchildren who she adored, Madison, Sean, Anna and Robert.
