Rev. Mr. John J. Ellis

John J. Ellis, affectionately known as “Ozzie,” passed away on May 29, 2025, at the age of 79. He was born on December 16, 1945, and spent his formative years in Philadelphia, where he received his education at St. Barnabas Grade School before graduating from West Catholic Boys High School in the Class of 1963.

A proud Navy veteran, John served his country during the Vietnam War, embodying a spirit of service that never left him. After his military service, he took on various roles, ultimately finding a profound calling in his faith. John was ordained as a Deacon for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia in 1998, a position he approached with dedication and humility, touching the lives of many through his commitment to the community.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Catherine Ellis (nee Keffer), who stood by his side throughout their life together. He leaves behind a family that reflects the depth of his love and devotion: his children, John J. Ellis, Jr. (Christine), Christopher Ellis (the late Lisa), Gregory Ellis (Debra) and the late Candace Ellis. John was also a proud grandfather to 10 grandchildren and a cherished great-grandfather to 17 great-grandchildren. He held dear the relationships with his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Sherrie and Joe Voci, and nieces and nephews, all of whom feel the loss of a kind and supportive presence

John J. Ellis leaves behind a legacy marked by service, love, and family. His gentle spirit and unwavering faith will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege to know him.

Reverend Clergy, religious, relatives and friends are invited to Deacon John's Funeral on Thursday June 5, 2025 at Our Lady of Peace Church, 208 Milmont Avenue, Milmont, PA 19033. Deacon John's viewing will begin at 9:00am till 10:45am. Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11:00am. Interment will follow at SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
