Rosemary V. Peterson

Rosemary Veronica Peterson, age 89, of Philadelphia, PA, peacefully passed away on September 17, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Philadelphia, Rosemary was the daughter of the late Elwood and Rosemary Kennedy (nee Dougherty). She attended Most Blessed Sacrament School and later, West Catholic School for Girls.

Rosemary devoted her life to raising her family in Southwest Philadelphia, where she was a loving mother to three children. A faithful member of St. Barnabas Parish, she attended church regularly and nurtured a deep and enduring relationship with Jesus, which guided her throughout her life.

Rosemary loved life! Her hobbies included gardening on her front patio, collecting Beanie Babies, decorating for holidays, baking, and playing bingo at local Senior Citizens events. One of her latest interests was discovering YouTube and spending time viewing unlimited content. She was also a devoted fan of Philadelphia sports. She loved cheering for the Phillies and the Eagles, with a special admiration for Saquon Barkley. One of her greatest joys this past year was watching Super Bowl LIX and celebrating the Eagles' victory.

She will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her gentle spirit, and devotion to her family. Rosemary's love, kindness, and example of perseverance will continue to inspire all who knew her.

She is survived by her three children, Sr. Rosemary Peterson, IHM, John Peterson (Carmella), and Edward Peterson (Karen). Five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren also survive her. She is also survived by her sister, Joan Marie Voli (nee Kennedy). She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Peterson, her dedicated companion, Charlie Gessley, and her brother, Elwood Charles.
