Theresa (Flaherty) Cascella

July 28, 1964 — October 2, 2020

Southwest Philadelphia

Theresa Cascella nee Flaherty passed away October 2, 2020 in Philadelphia, PA. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jane and John “Reds” Flaherty as well as her parents-in-law, Grace and Ramon Cascella. She is survived by her soulmate and husband, Ramon (Ray) Cascella Jr.; her three children: Raymond (Tiphanie) Cascella, Patrick Cascella, and Theresa (Tyler) Sharp; her brothers: Jack (Kate) Flaherty, Michael (Theresa) Flaherty, and Patrick Flaherty; her sisters: Janie Flaherty and Nancy (Ronnie) Perrelli Flaherty; and her granddaughter: Alice Grace Cascella. She is also survived by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, sibling-in-laws, great-nephews, and friends.

Theresa was born and raised in Southwest Philadelphia and was a member of the St. Irenaeus Parish and a 1983 graduate of West Philadelphia Catholic High for Girls. She was involved in sports such as track and field, basketball, and cheerleading. She was very proud to be from SWP – something that she would always say so loud and proud to whomever maybe near. Southwest held a special place in her heart as she made life-long friends and found and married her best friend, Ray on 73rd and Buist. Theresa would go on to raise her own family on 68th and Hobson.

Theresa lived and loved her life to the fullest – always filling the room with her laughter, good humor, and dance moves.  She was a typical teenager growing up in Southwest; she was either at the party or she was the party. She had a special gravitational force that would make anyone want to be her friend as she was easy to speak to no matter the topic of conversation. She listened and never judged. Theresa was a child of the 1960s so she was the true definition of a hippie through and through – she loved her tie dye, peace signs, and lava lamps. She enjoyed listening to classic rock music and winning radio contests, completing word searches, watching true crime documentaries, watching/listening to thunderstorms, using her extensive vocabulary consisting mostly of curse words, and Irish Weekends in Wildwood, NJ.  Her favorite pastimes were spending her nights with her husband, searching for and watching old television shows and movies and spending the holidays, special occasions, or a random weekday with her siblings and children. To those that have known her, how lucky are we?
