Wesley J. Bickel, born on May 11, 1942, 80 Years old, died on Saturday, November 12, 2022. Formerly of 61st Upland Street in Southwest Philly and residing for the last 24 years in Aldan, PA. Beloved husband of Joan (Lynch) Bickel, Father of David (Natalie), Joanie Boyd (Michael), and Stephen (Dana). Adoring grandfather to nine: Jude (Hannah), Liam, Catherine, Morah, Daniel, Mia, Ryan, Stevie and Daisy. Great Grandfather to his namesake Wesley Bickel. Brother of Isabel Betancourt and Betty Lou Gilliard, survived by many cousins, two nieces and one nephew. True and good friend to all who met him.
He was self-taught artist, wood carver, and musician (drums, sax and bass). He liked all kinds of music but especially the 60’s, Otis Redding was his favorite. A carpenter, electrician, plumber were among his skills. Served proudly in the United States Navy. He was stationed on the Vermillion and was deployed during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He worked at GE in Southwest Philly, he was a Dental technician, a construction worker, the Owner of Bickel’s Deli and finally retiring from the City of Philadelphia after 20 years of service as a Health Inspector. Famous for his tomato garden, yard and roses. Lover of a “great” hamburger, filet mignon and his Pisano wine. He was devoted to his Phillies, and was so looking forward to the World Series.
Family and friends are invited to his services on Friday, November 18, 2022 at Saint Eugene Catholic Church, 200 S. Oak Avenue, Primos PA. Visitation from 9:30 am until 10:50 am. Funeral Mass at 11:00 am. Internment Private. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his name to Saint John’s Hospice , Philadelphia PA or the charity of your choice.
