Dan Eury Obituary

On Friday, February 25, 2022, Dan Eury, loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully at home. He entered this world on December 20,1939 in Concord, North Carolina to E.T. and Nettie Eury.  He is predeceased by his siblings; Ray, Marvin, Sue, Jerry, Michael, and James. Dan enlisted in the United States Navy in 1958. While stationed in Philadelphia, Dan met the love of his life, Annie Carragher. After a 10 month courtship, Dan and Annie married at St. Cyril’s in East Lansdowne and celebrated 58 years and 10 months together. Dan and Annie welcomed five children; Rose (James) Shirk, Danny (Terri), John, Patrick (Elaine), and Brian (Lindsay). He is the loving Pop-Pop of Kyle, Patrick, Annie, Colin, Liam, Daniel, Leeann, Maggie, Keira, and Sean.

After the Navy, Dan worked for the US Post Office for over 35 years. Moving back and forth from East Lansdowne to North Carolina, he achieved his Associates Degree while working full time and raising a family. Upon retirement from the Post Office, he worked at Villanova University for close to 12 years. Dan’s service to his community did not stop with the Navy. His service was a lifelong passion where he served on St. Cyril’s’ Home and School Association, Boy Scouts of America, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Chapel of the Four Chaplains, Regina Mundi Priory, American Postal Workers Union (APWU) Retirement Association, and the U.S. Macon Carriers Association. Dan was a lifelong Servant Leader. He never sought attention but always pursued doing the work that was needed. Whether it was organizing fundraisers for the Knights, marking the graves of veterans at Fernwood Cemetery with American Flags for Memorial Day or setting up tents for St. Cyril’s annual carnival- Dan was there with his children with whom he shared his passion for community service. Irish by marriage, Dan also volunteered to coordinate the annual Communion Breakfast for the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Sean MacBride Division 2. He was an avid fan of the Phillies, Eagles, 76ers, and Villanova Men’s Basketball along with all of his grandchildren’s games.
