Dorothy M Hanlon passed away peacefully, at home, at the age of 93 on November 17, 2023. She was born on October 5, 1930 in South Philadelphia and was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Church parish. She graduated from John W. Hallahan Catholic High School receiving academic awards for achievements in typing, dictation, English and grammar. She married the love of her life, Charles A. Hanlon, in October of 1951 and recently celebrated their 72nd anniversary. She was deeply committed to her family and her faith. As a devoted and loving mother of 5 children, 11 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren, Dot instilled core values and emphasized the importance of family. She was deliberate in making sure everyone was treated equally. She hosted annual celebrations, baked delicious meals and desserts, and created new traditions like family Sunday brunches and ‘soupatorium’. Being an accomplished seamstress, she sewed everything from curtains, formal prom dresses and Easter outfits to Halloween costumes and the latest fashion trends for Barbie dolls. Dorothy was smart, hardworking and dedicated, always putting others before herself. While raising five children and maintaining an exceptionally clean home, she found time and energy to volunteer at St. Eugene’s Church and school and to serve as a ‘candy striper’ at Fitzgerald Mercy. She left a legacy allowing her character and presence to live on in the family she lovingly created and thoughtfully nurtured.
Dorothy is survived by her beloved husband Charles A. Hanlon. Her loving children: Pat (Al) Worthington, Charlie (Nancy) Hanlon, Maureen (Kevin) Koob, and Lori (John) Reynolds. She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Dot joined in Heaven her daughter, Joanne Henry.
