Katherine "Katie" Sullivan

It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of our Katie, on July 20, 2023. Katherine (Katie) Sullivan, 35, of Malvern, Pennsylvania was a brilliant girl with a love for writing, poetry, and music.

Granddaughter of Sally Wood and daughter to Sallyanne (Wood) Sullivan, she was the apple of her mother’s eye and her only daughter. Like her mother, Katie was an avid reader and writer.  She could read and recite “The Velveteen Rabbit” word for word, cover to cover, at the age of 2. She loved that the Skin Horse remained the rabbit’s close friend reminding him that “once you are real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.”   

Her first school experience was in a Kindergarten class in Cork, Ireland where she thought it “rained a lot” but she loved how green everything was. When her family finally settled in Malvern, she could be found in her room reading for hours.  An honors graduate from Great Valley High School, she decided to attend Cabrini College where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in English.  Katie had a wit and sense of humor that could charm anyone.  Making each person laugh harder than the other was a challenge she rarely lost.

Katie is pre-deceased by her mother, Sally, who passed away on September 1, 1999 and her special friend, Chris, who passed away in early January. Katie leaves behind her 4 brothers- Kevin Sullivan (Hannah), Matthew Sullivan, Daniel Sullivan, and Christoper Sullivan (Kate), Stepbrothers Adam and Ben Capriola, Stepsister Christina Capriola, a niece, and a nephew. She will be forever missed by her numerous aunts, uncles, and over 50 cousins on her mother’s side alone that never stopped loving her.  Her laugh would bring a smile to the crankiest of people and her inside jokes remain with those of us that had them with her.

A Memorial Mass in Katie’s honor will be held on September 1, 2023 at 11:00am at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church,104 Channing Avenue, Malvern, PA 19355. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Katie’s name and memory to The Children’s Treehouse Foundation. https://childrenstreehousefdn.org/
