Michael J. “Mickey” Mooney of Aldan, PA, formerly of Southwest Philly passed peacefully on May 8, 2022. Husband of the late Margaret (nee Hogg). Father of the late Michael Mooney III, survived by his daughters Marie (Anthony) Salvato and Megan (Craig aka Greg) Derr, his grandsons, Michael (Vicki) Mooney IV, Sean Mooney, Geoffrey Mooney and Anthony Salvato and great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Michael J. & Elsie M. (nee Weir) Mooney Sr., his siblings Franny, Bobby & Barbara.
Mickey was able to retire early from Philadelphia Gas Works in 1992. Whether you knew him as Mickey or Mike, you were always in for a dancing story or a fishing story. Mickey was an avid fisherman who loved opening day of Trout season. He was also loved to golf, play softball and bowl in his younger days. He also enjoyed woodworking and making children’s puzzles. Those who knew him well, always parted his company with his latest beaded handiwork, whether it was earrings or pins.
His absolute favorite thing was dancing. He is most proud of his time on Bandstand and date nights with his wife dancing the night away. Over the years, Mickey shared his passion for dancing by teaching country western dancing at local bars and senior centers.
At Mickey’s request, no services will be held.
The family request instead of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to Friends of Heinz Refuge as he served as a volunteer at the Heinze Refuge in Tinicum.
