Paul Rastatter died on December 21, 2022, at the age of 66, after battling a major cardiac incident the past several months. Paul who proudly called himself #4, was the fourth child out of 8 in his large family. He is predeceased by his parents, James and Kathleen (Furey) and two brothers James Jr. and William. He is survived by John (Rosa), Daniel, Mary (George Guzzie), Nancy (Michael) Guerra and Joseph (Jeanine).
After graduating from Annunciation BVM, Paul attended Haverford High School where is he was voted the “Best Dressed” in his high school class. He then enlisted in the Air Force while the Vietnam conflict was still in progress. He was trained as an aircraft electrician. He did not see combat, but he did travel a great deal. Paul went back to school and earned both an undergraduate and graduate degree in History from Villanova University. He also earned a Master’s in Public Administration from Widener University.
For much of Paul’s career he worked in various government agencies. He started out in the Post Office before embarking on his favorite job as a Park Ranger at Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. Paul then spent 13 years working as a Veterans Service Representative for the Department of Veteran’s Affairs before he retired recently. Paul also served as an adjunct professor at Delaware County Community College.
Paul loved history and his Irish culture. He volunteered his time with the Irish of Havertown for many years and was at one time the club President. He oversaw many parade floats that won “Best of” at the Philadelphia Saint Patrick’s Day parade.
Paul's Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Annunciation BVM Church in Havertown. Friends and family are also invited to his visitation which will be held prior to Mass from 9:30 to 10:45 Mass starting promptly at 11:00. Interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations are being requested in Paul’s name to American Legion Post 316 1127 Atlantic Blvd, Atlantic Beach, FL 32233.
