Robert C. Daknis age 86 entered into eternal life on September 19, 2023.Bob lived most his life in Southwest Philly, St. Barnabas Parish. He was a graduate of West Catholic High School For Boys Class 1955. In fact Bob entered the novitiate for the Christian Brothers shortly after high school to discern a vocation. Bob never took his final vows with the Brothers but was sent by the order to teach at St. Joseph, Missouri. Bob left the order and entered Temple University to finish his education, while working part time at the Philadelphia Stock Exchange and other side employments before getting a teaching position with the School District of Philadelphia at the Hamilton School from where he retired. In later life he would joke that he and Peter Boyle, the actor who also entered the novitiate, were always clowning around and not bright enough to compete with the other brothers. Bob eventually attained his masters degree to show how he underappreciated his talents. Most admirable of Bob's accomplishments was assuming the complete care of his brother Jimmy after the death of their mother in 1984 until Jimmy's death in 2015, 31 years. Bob was also a avid sports fan but as most Philly fans was a fair weather fan. He much enjoyed visits to the Atlantic City Casinos with his brother and other family members. He always seemed to have a smile on his face and could see the humor in even the most difficult situations. He was a good neighbor to everyone and will be missed greatly.
Bob was the son of the late Charles S. & Theresa A.(nee Romansky) Daknis. Brother of the late Charles A. "Bud" Daknis, Carole Davis, Dorothy Geary, Bill Daknis and Jimmy Daknis.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Mass of Christian Burial Saturday 10:30am October 28, 2023 at St. Barnabas Church 6300 Buist Avenue Philadelphia, PA 19142. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. There is no visitation or gathering before Mass.
